What intregues me about this paper is that Luu has discovered two states: One is MoreActivePositive (MAP), the other is MoreActiveNegative (MAN).
How does this correspond to those who are calm under fire, but overly excitable when something good happens.
Also, it may be possible that erasing a memory, as a way of rejecting an event … creates more energy. So in selecting a drink … one looks for the one least liked … to forget, rather than the most liked to remember. The former would be the MAN, the latter, MAP.
There is also the Renshaw cell, that when excited has a dendrite that turns upon itself to turn itself off. It is thought that the more intelligent you are, the more things you are able to turn off, and therefore the more things that you can realize by being sensitive to the next stimulus.
Luu also mentions the ‘unique pattern of brain activity associated with preference for each subject’ … The number and location and activity of one’s Renshaw cells may determine that uniqueness.
My dad’s major theory and the main extent of the evidence has not been published , but involves over 200 variables on about 600 infants to adult covering some 42 years of his pediatric practice and professorship at Northwestern Medical School. His thesis is that children, especially those 0 to 4 years, who are exposed to minimal negative remarks half their waking hours (4 hours) have more success growing and developing as they do not have to learn ‘techniques of resistance’ , and therefore remain more receptive to teaching and positive role models throughout life.
It was hard to publish this study as no double blind controls were available .. he couldn’t therefore in good conscious be like Dr. Spock, who said ‘Just do whatever feels good.’ Spock did both residencies, Pediatric and Psychiatic, and the latter on seemed to win over his earlier. To keep everything just as natural (ly selective) as a Darwinian paradise …. and if it all fuc*s up, your friendly therapist will be there with Thorizine, Valium, Lithium … whatever you want.
Thank you Dr. Spock, and Freud … my dad says you’re a Fraud.
Now let’s get back to when Bill Gates will have a Windows version of that mindreader implant or at least beanie with a propellor on top (oh, Apple’s got that locked up).
It would be interesting which MAN or MAP preference develops in these early developmental years, depending on how the child is managed.
Or just for fun, maybe the brain hat link near the bottom of the article will work in my older age.. brain farts are em Bare Assing in polite society.
