So much for Darwin’s Theory Getting Fact Status. My grandmother’s brother and I are the only ones in our family with blue eyes. My dad had a hazel as did my sister, and both my brother and mom’s were brown.
And about the melanin under the skin. The last ice age put a lot of us underground in caves. It may be that some changed from the female gene, those would be the ones who would be staying home to care for the children, and the mutants who where whiter had an advantage on the whitish landscape for stealth against other prey, like snowshoe rabbits and polar bears today. So selection favored the whiter skin, just because you were less likely to be on the saber end of the saber toothed tiger.
But it all goes back to the origins of something, be it speech, blue eyes or other mutation that is not in itself obvious the benefit and the increase favor toward either. David Custis Kimball
