Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.

History, Physics, Psychophysics
— William Butler Yeats
thanks Cloois
Education lights a fire; if information is the content of education, then information could be the match, the vigorous rubbing of two sticks, the flint rock and the kindling.
Information then is the complex relationships which cause a chain reaction that can be predictable and sustainable. Information unless renewed is finite, but reacts predictably to the fuel fed into it.
Strickly speaking, Yeats’ metaphor sucks because we can’t light a fire, we can only light a flammable substance. A fire is the reaction of the heat and material burning.
