Although not as simple, the sharpening of the circuits, as well as the associative memory of the circuits are most radically changed in the first 3 years of life as you can see in the 1st graph more easily than the 2nd. We are however designed to change and increase the myelin sheath over that which works. ‘What fires together, wires together’ was the conclusion of Prof. Scott Kelso.
What cannot be denied is the sensitivity of the very young. The parents can learn so much of the meaning of things, and I have spoken of my daughter’s and son’s exceptionalisms before. The world is such a bang-yourself-against-hard stuff, like a hull in a stiff breeze, a light hull and the pounding of the waves. You tend to stop seeing too deeply as it becomes more painful. But that is when the parent needs to see what the child sees, and make the insight memorable. We are much too interested in the ‘outward’ order of things and not the insight, which must proceed anything worthy of expressing outwardly.
My rant against catamarans, like Islam is that their designs are inherently not stable. Both have a poor weather helm, and the fear of capsize is only masked by the arrogance of its own idea of superiority, based on nothing, but a superficial wind.
And finally: make it ‘fewer’ cells, more speed. Cells go bye bye… they don’t ‘lessen’, or get smaller. Pickity, snikity…
