To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is the meaning of success.

Transcendentalism as in ‘to see beyond the pain endured at the dentist’ dck
Well, RWEmerson helped Melville write at least Moby Dick, and put a scary, but all too human face on the likes of an Ahab, who in reality was a characture of a Captn. Valentine Pease, whose new ship, Achushnet, was also his last voyage and Melville, about 26th of the 28 crew…. a lowly condition, indeed. To seek and kill the manifest creation, a white whale, like a godly creature of great rarity, and perhaps no cooincidence that the name ‘Ahab’ conjures up an Islamic hubris of their own pride. As they seek death of the most rare and powerful, so will they be destroyed.
Thank you, Emerson and Melville, and Valentine Pease, who endured.
