History, Human Affairs, Law

I want to hug Ms. Merkel, for her resounding affirmation of her country’s humanity, and even as there are many pockets of doubt there, her humanity shines brightly.

I spent a summer in Germany in 1967, and was required to register with the police as the first order of business when I arrived, as anyone staying more than (I think) a week was required to do that. I stayed in a small estate on the second floor with very quiet landlord and roomed with a Spanish guy who could neither speak English or German, and I spoke no Spanish. Well I didn’t hang out there much, as the music of the small town, Bad Ailbling had bands playing every day in the park, and there were a lot of students and work to do to keep up with the 40 hours/week of classroom in German at the Goethe Instituet (e’s are umlauts over the preceding letter).

Ms. Merkel sounded sincere, yet the complexities lay ahead with the enforcement when Iran does acquire a bomb (but will we ever find out until it is unleashed). The Hamas and Hezzbollah terrorists keep tormenting Israel and distracting it from acquiring certainty about the real enemy. It leads to some thinking that Israel should just be nicer, and then Muslims will be nicer… but that is not the law, the propaganda from infancy to adulthood about the ‘pigs’ being Jews who bleed children, etc. And so we keep giving aid, but no demands upon those in Gaza where they were given UNILATERALLY this area back to make peace, but it has been worse, and no punishment or corrective actions have been taken by anyone, especially the EU, Germany, France, England, and really the USA. It’s their problem … if they would stop building homes on land they won in wars started by Arabs…. nah.

I hope this feel good translates into action for a growing number of world citizens. What are the ‘action steps’? The recent sending of weapons discovered by Israel and taken to Israel should remain there, and next time, the ship that brings these weapons to Lebanon, Syria, or Egypt should also be taken by Israel, even if ‘owned’ by a German, who well may be a Nazi holdout. What about the ‘Enablers’? Don’t we refer to them as co-conspirators, and isn’t it enough proof that the weapons were aboard to show complicity. Isn’t it the captain’s responsibility to know what he is carrying…. as he admitted the weapons endangered himself and his crew. What was he paid? And how stupid would he like us to believe he is? Germany still has a few questions to answer.
