History, Science, Uncommon Sense
Besides the humor, and grace of Pres. Hockfield, and especially I’ll second the motion of ‘Galactic Science Museum’, Max, the Cosmologist gave us a great summary up to June, 2008, what was going on in the universe.
The last question about other life in the universe is most significant in that he did not believe that there was much life who were like us, e.g. ‘had radios’. SETI has been searching for many years and no ‘Contact’ has occurred much to Carl Sagan’s (RIP) chagrin. I would concur, that the idea of ‘Human Exceptionalism’ should give everyone, including ‘Evolutionaries from Slime’ pause to consider … the possibility of intervention along the pathway of evolution, as it has not been disproven. Max did think that other life could include life, e.g. ‘cow’, which he would be very interested in verifying, which further supports ‘Human Exceptionalism’.
He did mention the future of using neutrinos to probe the initial ‘opaque’ background within the first time of the universe, before light was actually available to be produced without being recaptured by the ‘dark matter’ that dominated the first time. I proposed that when I was kicked in the face by a hackney pony at about age 23, my seeing in slow motion decelerated space by accelerating time, where the time of reaction was not fixed at ‘c’, but much slower. Or rather the frequency of normal spacetime … therefore slow motion occurred. Due to the immediacy, I was not sure that ephinephrine was the cause, but rather my temporal accelerator, perhaps Hippocampus, which like a cyclone, increases the power factor of the memory events…. if Neutrinos were replacing the electrons as they can perhaps withstand the speed boost, then ‘neutrino time’ was proposed as my saving grace. So too, if Neutrinos with their added power can, like x-rays penetrate opaque matter.
Note: If we are expecting distant evidence of radios with humans, then they must have had it centuries before we did….
Understanding dark matter and dark energy are also on his to do list … and that’s where we enter 2009 with the discovery that a 20 degree lense of clusters of galaxies are being accelerated toward a ‘dark flow’ which they extrapolate would have a source at 46.5 Billion light years away …. another universe? or part of the dark energy that allowed the big bang to occur … some would like to give the analogy of God at Las Vegas at the Craps table… and our universe and the big bang was his throwing of the dice of our current space-time continuum….um.
