Mom, who died of a torn aoerta in March, 2002 had been using Vioxx as a pain relief from her arthritis. She had previously had a myocardial infarction in 1980, but was fully mobile at the time just before this accident. She was cleaning up after a party, I’m told and was the only one able to drive a car (dad, some 4 years younger had macular degeneration). I spoke to her from Morikami’s Field Day events on the afternoon, and expected to drive north that next morning to see her. She was feeling better she said and didn’t want anyone worrying about her. She passed on that evening in her 3rd month after her 96th birthday.
So I don’t take any chemical ‘feel good’ pharmacueticals, especially when rest or some dieting can alleviate the symptoms. Knock on wood that my ruptured disk will stay quiet…. so aspirin, maybe one every other day at 325mg is a good thing…. Natural is better, and ‘pine top tea’ used by the native americans contained as a main ingredient salacylic acid, i.e. aspirin.
