Environment, Real Estate The fact that algae can produce oils as in diesel, and other chemicals including methane gas is proof that our sewage systems need to be upgraded. The Georgia system of lake after lake growing algae and other plants to absorb the nutrients led to clear water. The aerobic digesters then anearobic digesters and back and forth, harvesting the compounds is an idea that has been used… but more efficiency, standards need to be developed to make systems that actually work. Here is a natural area that government should control… it is a subset of protecting the people. The fact that we pump billions of gallons of sewage into the ocean a mile or so offshore is criminal, when we can be harvesting and using the biproducts. The problem is that like recycling, they charge us some $150 per year for the privilege of our separating our paper, plastic, etc. But they make money at it, or should… or some fat envelopes are passed out on holidays to government facilitators…. It the mean time…. keep watering the garden, ‘Yellow, let it mellow; brown flush it down..’ A disgusting and humiliating situation for our government to force our citizens, who are not protected from pollution and killing off the fishes, not that we can pollute the 354 million cubic miles of ocean anytime soon, but that the pollution is all within a mile or so of the shore …. the estuaries, the baby rooms of little fishes. That’s just pure mean.(very cool) Bio-fuel Eco Pods Rejuvenate Stalled Boston Project: Halted in November 2008, mid-construction, the Filene development in downtown Boston is currently barely even a shell of a building. The bones of the building are up, but sub street level a giant hole leaves a gouge in the city’s plan. Undaunted, Höweler + Yoon Architecture and Squared Design Lab teamed up to design a vertical tower of prefabricated “eco pods” filled with bio-fuel producing algae for the space. The new tower would act as a center to test new algae species and different growing methods. (more from inhabitat)
