History, Law, Common Nonsense vs. Uncommon Sense
This is BIG. Secret Ballot defines a democratic process. Without it you pit ‘absolute rule’ of the powerful vs. mob rule. ‘Power tends to corrupt, and Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.’ Lord Acton
An argument would be however, well if the secret ballot were so great, how did a schmuck like the Union Boss in there now get there. That is a concern, but no argument for degrading democracy. Remember, it can always be worse. Wait until the Union is ready to give up control of GM, which it illegally was given control of by the current ‘Boss’ President. It is more divisive and takes away from the individual his secure knowledge that he can speak and act freely with responsibility.
Taking away secret ballot ‘rights’ can be argued that it is against ‘freedom of speech’, because retribution can be calculated and perpetrated on those who vote against the ‘winner’ of any election, instead of treating everyone equally… (well I guess that argues for equality under the law, as well.)
