Me: Well, I've two talented kids; the younger mentioned my stopping with the lectures. Then enthusiastically asked, 'Dad, can I help you set up a blog?' Moments later, Me: 'OK, that's a great idea, thinkin' they might just read it someday.

History, Science, Chemistry, Medicine, Humor

I saw this show last night on PBS and it really opened my appreciation for Linus Pauling. I have his General Chemistry book and am always impressed with the visual presentation. My days in chemistry were back in the slide rule days and I never took Physical Chemistry, which was much of Pauling’s work.

On M.L. King’s Day, here’s a man who also had a dream, and like King’s photographer, who was white, King didn’t think color was the issue. I didn’t realize Pauling’s profound influence on nuclear nonproliferation, with associated underground and now ‘virtual testing’, except for rogues like N. Korea, and its allies.

The only man to win two Nobel Prizes as an individual.  And orthochemical medicines, including vitamin C is an important issue, but it lacks a method of measuring how much your body needs when.  Imagine a small device that would sample urine, saliva, and maybe occasionally blood (like diabetics do) and this would tell you which vitals you were low on.  Vitals are common items like Vitamins and minerals.  This would avoid the risk of taking too much, which might inhibit, and in the case of Vitamin E, has been accuse of inhibiting your natural production.

I can only imagine how drug companies would try to divert this effort, similar to the way drug companies have diverted breastfeeding by asking,  or having their agent doctors ask, ‘Does little baby have a bowel movement daily?’  Of course uninformed breastfeeding mothers would say ‘no’.  Breastmilk is so well absorbed that BM’s are only every few days. The doctor would say coyly, ‘Well do you think baby is getting enough to eat?’  That’s enough to plant the virus in her mind, and especially any servant’s mind so that they would start to supplement the breastmilk, and soon the baby doesn’t demand as much breastmilk and mom’s supply diminishes…. Mission accomplished. Baby is hooked on a $3000 per year habit, which compromises its immune system and retards its development.

So my advice is to take some vitamin C, not too much, but instead of fruit juice, especially Minutemade or Tropicana which uses Brazilian concentrate which has a carcenogenic fungicide sprayed on the fruit, one that is illegal in the USA. (see prior blog entry).

Also look at the hardships that Linus Pauling dealt with in growing up without a dad, who died early in his life and left him with a mom who had serious problems.  He totally availed himself of all the opportunities of public education and pursued many with passion.  He was also very lucky to find someone who was so devoted to him, and wisely he married her.

It’s a great story; and a great story of grace, hard work and faith in miraculous ideas for the improvement of all of us. I kinda think Linus and Martin are ‘mixing it up’ , like baking soda and vinegar, but having fun.
