You: Why Dave; why now?
Me: Well, I've a two talented kids; the younger said, 'Stop with the lectures.' Then asked, 'Dad, can I help you set up a blog?' Moments later, Me: 'OK, that's a great idea, thinkin' they might just read it someday.

In Hot Pursuit of Fusion (or Folly) | NYTimes
The National Ignition Facility, set to go online this week, will fuse hydrogen into helium, “releasing bursts of thermonuclear energy” (like stars). But, more importantly: the world’s most powerful laser!BEC, History, Physics, Science This reminds me of my visit in the summer of 1967 to Prof. Harold Stumpf’s home in Tuebingen, Germany as a guest and friend of Prof. Stumpf’s wife’s sister, Eva Worthington. Prof. Stumpf was working on fusion at that time at the U. of Tuebingen. We spoke a lot of German, and had a wonderful walk and swim thru the Black Forest, where we stopped for a while and I think I also ‘dropped trou’ and swam in a refreshing lake. His wife, Gita, did not as I remember; it was a guy thing. All of us had two walking sticks, and these used with some force could propel you for miles thru the paths, and the tall darkened forest …. I wondered if we were going to run into Hanzel and Gretel, or worse, the witch’s gingerbread house. (Gingerbread and Marzapan are not so much my favs.) Prof. Stumpf didn’t drive a car… he had bright red hair and was a native of then Chekeslovakai (ckecoslovakia?).. due east of southern Germany. Inspiring people; and then young couple without kids… best wishes and thanks for the weekend. Then I saw Charles Townes name on the list of dignitaries to dedicate this Star Power Maker. Not only was he Provost of MIT, won the Nobel in 1964, he was a Theist and credited his discoveries on his belief that g-d was kind enough to share secrets with him. (need to research reference). As proof, in 2005 - he was awarded the Templeton Prize for “Progress Toward Research or Discoveries about Spiritual Realities.” The laser is a direct link to the proof of Bose-Einstein Condensates, which has been referred to as g-d matter, by some. That’s because it can ‘laser’ itself or various complexities of matter from itself, itself as a astronomically large accumulation of BEC, say with the millions of star masses near at the center of galaxies, or even from the moon of Saturn to Jupiter as the massive current from a prior post. Anyway, it’s big. The problem of fusion is one of containment.. the temperature of sun-like material might only be able to be contained by large force fields, which to generate … kind of reduces the efficiency of the fusion idea. In space, dark side of moon, or somewhere really cold might be a better venue… so I’m not looking for this to replace what we’ve got here and now. The effects of fusion: sunlight, weather, and even moon and sun tides seem as valid pursuits for Mom Earth. That Icaris with the ‘too close to the sun’ adventure kind of rings as a warning for heating up stuff to millions of degrees here at MomEarth’s Home.
